Description
Résumé:This article demonstrates how the Algerian war of Independence (1954-1962) affected and radicalized the trajectory of the African American civil rights movement. Members of the Black Panther Party during their four-year exile in Algiers under the leadership of Eldridge Cleaver helped shape revolutionary thought, that transcended racial borders and was framed around a shared transnational experience of oppression. While the movement was threatened in the United States, the Black Panther Party became the symbol of the struggle against U.S. imperialism.
