| Shrnutí: | To assess the inescapable barriers to care that refugees may face, this article uses a counter-intuitive and almost ideal-typical case of international migration: that of the ’open arms’ welcome given by both the authorities and French citizens to refugees from Ukraine in 2022. In these conditions, what were the residual limits of this ’red carpet’? Based on nineteen interviews with refugee families and around thirty with institutions and associations in the Lyon metropolitan area, this article highlights the persistence of difficulties in accessing healthcare, despite the benefits offered. Some difficulties are intrinsically linked to the urgency of a migratory crisis (non-use of services, language barriers, lack of information or restrictions on admission criteria), others are more structural, linked to the French healthcare system (coverage of healthcare policies, delays in obtaining an appointment or reluctance on the part of practitioners), and others are intercultural, caused by misunderstandings between refugees and those involved in the provision of care. |
