Shrnutí:This article is based on a study of older immigrants receiving psychiatric care and of their family caregivers. We analyzed the role that these families played in the psychiatric treatment and follow-up of their family member. Facing disorders that are difficult to identify because they are invisible and little known, caregivers engage in a course that results in a caregiving trajectory, according to a desired and feasible degree of personal investment. To provide help, while coping with their relative’s possible language barrier, they articulate with different spheres: their professional sphere, their siblings, the healthcare professionals and social and medical institutions. While some caregivers manage to develop resources that consolidate the continuity of their caregiving trajectory, others experience more obstacles that lead to a discontinuity in the care they provide. Therefore, the aim of this article is to show the ongoing interplay of articulation, disarticulation and re-articulation that these families carry out with their various interlocutors.
