| Résumé: | This article looks at the effects of administrative insecurity on the health of elderly migrants in France. Adopting an ethnographic approach, based on a qualitative survey of migrants aged over 60 of non-European origin (countries outside the European Union), we explore the diversity of experiences of these older people in the process of regularising their residence status, depending on their history and the administrative difficulties they face. We are also analysing the risks posed by this administrative insecurity for their health. Analysis of the interviews shows that the respondents are very determined in their approach, using a variety of means such as highlighting their integration pathways, recourse to the specific right to health, etc. to assert their rights. However, these steps often fall far short of achieving the desired results, and administrative insecurity has a profound effect on their living conditions, resulting in permanent insecurity and increased vulnerability, particularly for women. It is accompanied by social isolation and the risk of multimorbidity, restricted care pathways and even abandonment of care. These results prompt reflection on policies to prevent inequalities in health that take account of the administrative situation of vulnerable people. |
