| Résumé: | It is clear that very high altitude is becoming a new strategic environment for conflict. With their hitherto unseen ranges of speed and altitude, balloons, gliders and hypersonic missiles are forcing complete reconsideration of surveillance, defence and rules of engagement in this sovereign environment which extends beyond the commonly-used airspace and out into extra-atmospheric space. The Air and Space Force is structuring an appropriate response to guarantee national sovereignty and the security of this complex and contested environment in which major competitors are already operating. |
