Description
Résumé:The figure of Hans Hartung is not habitually associated with the American artistic scene. Resulting from an historical construction centered on the mutual rejection of Paris and New York after World War II, this vision does not take into account the numerous initiatives put in place in the 1930s in order to circulate Hartung’s work in the important locations of the New York art scene. From the reproduction of his works in avant-garde magazines in 1937 to his one man exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1975, as well as his inclusion in prestigious American collections, Hartung succeeded in weaving a solid network of acquaintances in the service of the transatlantic diffusion of his work.
