Résumé:This article analyzes the perspectives of Montesquieu and Rousseau on the relationship between trade and peace. While Montesquieu advocates the theory of “doux commerce”, arguing that economic exchanges soften manners and promote stability, Rousseau views trade as a source of dependence and corruption, fostering conflict. Through a comparative reading of their writings, this study explores the foundations and implications of their theories, offering a critical reflection on economic interdependence and its effects on international relations.
