| Sumari: | The conflict in Ukraine is a catalyst for the dynamics driving the defense ecosystem. In questioning the frontiers of the defense industry, this article focuses on the interactions between public and private players and the evolution of different modes of innovation. Two markets with very different characteristics are highlighted. The first is the “traditional” market, specialized in major equipment and concentrated on a small number of players due to barriers to entry. A second, so-called “emerging” market, completes the supply side of the market with players often coming from the civilian sector, fewer barriers to entry, and in which new firms can easily emerge. This distinction highlights recent developments within this ecosystem and identifies the different strategies adopted by players, particularly in terms of innovation. |
