Résumé:From the early 19th century onwards, innovation was gradually invented at the pace of conflicts sparked by new industrial techniques, such as the textile workers’ riots in Vienne (Isère) in 1819. Amid conflicts and negotiations over new machines, innovation was domesticated and changed its meaning within the emerging political economy, becoming positive and appreciated as a central value of modernity associated with progress.
