We will discuss here about the possibility to build an archaeology specifically aiming to the study of infantry fighting, through the evidence gathered during two World War 2 battlefield excavations in Normandy, in la Montaguerie (Amigny) et Brecourt Manor (Sainte-Marie-du-Mont).Des deux dimensions de la mémoire de la bataille, celle idéelle d’une part et celle matérielle d’autre part, c’est au premier abord la seconde qui s’impose à l’archéologue. Pourtant, le récit, la dimension idéelle de la mémoire, dicte souvent à l’archéologue des conflits contemporains son cadre de référence. Nous nous interrogerons ici sur la possibilité de construire une archéologie du combat, plus spécifiquement du combat d’infanterie, à partir de deux études de cas, les fouilles de la Montanguerie à Amigny (Manche) et du Manoir de Brécourt à Sainte-Marie-du-Mont (Manche).Cairn free access |
