Résumé:Battles have a twofold memory: an ideal one, and a material one, which logically is the one that should interest archaeologists. Nonetheless, the narrative of the battle, the ideal dimension of the memory of the battle, often provide a much rigid framework to the archaeologist of modern warfare. We will discuss here about the possibility to build an archaeology specifically aiming to the study of infantry fighting, through the evidence gathered during two World War 2 battlefield excavations in Normandy, in la Montaguerie (Amigny) et Brecourt Manor (Sainte-Marie-du-Mont).
