Description
Résumé:Following a number of archaeological operations, a preventive archaeological dig was carried out in 2021-2022 in the immediate vicinity of Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrénées airport (Hautes-Pyrénées). The operation uncovered a German Flak battery from the World War II, consisting of tanks and firing posts linked by a network of trenches in the southern part of the site. Dumping pits and rest areas were also identified. To the north, the excavation revealed the presence of a vast platform surrounded by ditches, interpreted as a dispersal pit for aircraft. This is the first approach to part of the defence system for the airfield and the industrial facilities associated with it. At the time of writing, the study phase of the operation is still underway.
