| Crynodeb: | The recent bankruptcy, preceded by a bank run, of one of the giant banks of the start-ups, Silicon Valley Bank, raise debate about the causes of the liquidity crisis in the banking sector. The aim of this research is to study the determinants of bank liquidity in the context of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) using a multidimensional approach. The econometric study involves three regression models on a panel of 80 banks over the period 2012-2020. Our results with the robust model show that the liquidity of WAEMU banks can be explained by a combination of several factors, with in particular a significant positive impact of the non-disjunction of the functions of general management and chairman of the board, the maturity of the bank, the fact that the general management function is exercised by a man and inflation. On the other hand, the effect is negative with the growth in the cost of risk. Knowledge of these factors would help managers to manage the bank’s liquidity effectively and efficiently. It could also be useful to customers, investors and the BCEAO, respectively in their choice of main bank, their investment and the strengthening of prudential measures. |
