| Achoimre: | Fixing and publishing dividend payment date is a very important and challenging decision in the life cycle of the firm. No statistical method has been suggested to the literature to tackle this problem. Signal models, especially, were lot interesting because of their universal approximation characteristics. This study contributes to the dividend payment date evaluation literature. We use a signal model to confirm if the dividend payment date could be considered as a signal. We use a database of 168 files of commercial and industrial French listed companies between 2003 and 2008. Our main result is: timing of dividend payment is employed as a signal from managers to investors as this date is near from the date of the meeting of shareholders. |
