| Samenvatting: | Abstract: Since the middle of the 20th century, the new theory of messages and regulation by information known as cybernetics has continued to evolve and expand in many directions. The Human Use of Human Beings. Cybernetics and Society, offers readers a presentation of cybernetics free of its mathematical foundations and aimed at its human, social and political consequences. It was a real publishing success in the early 1950’s, as was the seminal work that preceded it by two years, Cybernetics or Control and Communication in the Animal and Machine. The purpose of this article is to examine the particular scientific and geopolitical context in which cybernetics took shape, in relation to the singular career of an extraordinary scientist, Norbert Wiener. We will also take a detailed look at the concepts, thinking and writing process presented in Cybernetics and Society. The Human Use of Human Beings before unfolding some legacy threads of cybernetics, espacially in the information and communication sciences. |
