| Sumario: | Echoing the discussions held as part of a workshop on parties at CEPEL’s 40th-anniversary colloquium, this article revisits the analytical “panic” aroused by the simultaneous and generally successful emergence of new political formations in Europe, such as Podemos in Spain, La France Insoumise, La République en Marche in France and the 5-Star Movement (M5S) in Italy. Contrary to the belief that this phenomenon marks the end of traditional parties, this contribution aims to recall the partially innovative character of the recently emerged organisations and highlight the effects of partisan alignment they may have experienced as they became institutionalized. |
