Zusammenfassung:The author offers an analysis of the bill on assisted dying, based on the interview of the head of state with two journalists1 on March 10, as well as the preamble and the ten articles of the draft law published on April 10. This proposal will be submitted to the deputies at the end of May2. The juxtaposition of the three documents sheds light on the philosophy behind it. Although a gap may be observed between the president’s statements and the bill, the terms assisted suicide and euthanasia are indeed omitted from the text. The debates surrounding this law, which is the subject of public controversies, lead to a reflection on assisted dying and its stakes based on three notions: are there “non-pathological” suicides that justify assisted suicide? Can end-of-life care be considered a form of treatment? Finally, does this project represent a break or continuity with the current legislative framework? The article concludes with a critical reflection on the conditions for implementing assisted dying as advocated by the bill.
