Opis
Streszczenie:European citizenship, as a status deriving from member states nationality, draws major criticisms. The article tackles them in three ways. First, it shows that it is not the derivative character of citizenship that limits it to the economic field, but the small range of substantial rights it gives access to. Then, it presents the access it offers to guaranteed rights in the member states as a genuine right in itself. Finally, it argues that, after withdrawing from the Union, the United Kingdom has not regained sovereignty over its own borders, but has decided to replace European citizenship with another principle of reciprocity in order to address the situation of its nationals in the member states and of European citizens on its territory.
