| Sažetak: | In Gabon, the concept of “kounabélisme” refers to a mechanism by which bodies, cultural productions, and discourses are subjected to the desires of the ruling elites in exchange for being included in the spheres of power and access to its clientelist redistribution networks. The term, which was named after the cultural animation group of the former First Lady of Gabon (Kounabéli), became widely used during and after the August 2023 election. In this article, I examine the discussions surrounding kounabélisme as topics of debate on citizenship, political participation, and moral economies in times of crisis. In particular, I reflect on the moral economies of looting and “taxation” as imagined by artists from the ntcham musical genre, who were the group that was most frequently accused of kounabelism during the August 2023 election. |
