Shrnutí:Addiction is a public health concern. Projective tools are invaluable in assessing and guiding treatment, as they help to provide a complex and nuanced interpretation of the trauma and the meaning of the traumatic problem, without reducing it to a single symptom. This article is based on the clinical experience of a psychologist working in detention. In these clinical setting, addictive behaviour is not a recreational activity governed by the search for pleasure. It is more a way of avoiding of the traumatic imprint which is far more deleterious. The link to the object of addiction then presents itself as an organiser of trauma through addictive trauma. The article begins by reviewing some of the milestones and particularities of traumatic expressions in the addiction clinic, and then looks at addiction in terms of “traumatic cyclicity”, which takes the place of an inoperative internal rhythmicity. Finally, the traumatic experience is considered from the point of view of its extreme affect, fear.
