Sažetak:During the 1970s and 1980s, the development of holidaymaking in the Gironde took place within a context shaped by both economic crisis and proactive territorial planning policies. This article examines holidays as spaces in which material and social borders are crossed, as well as the borders of imaginaries, drawing on the case of the Gironde between 1970 and 1988. The study shows that public policies encouraged the democratisation of access to holidays while simultaneously producing new forms of spatial differentiation, particularly between the coastline and the hinterland, a characteristic feature of social tourism. Through an analysis of holiday facilities and practices, the article highlights the reconfiguration, and at times the temporary softening, of social boundaries within collective holiday settings. Finally, by focusing on imaginaries and lived experiences, notably through the initiatives of the non-profit organisation Secours Populaire Français, the study demonstrates that holidays constitute a lasting experience of cultural boundary-crossing, contributing both to individuals’ social development and to the transformation of their relationship with places.
