Description
Résumé:The history of colonial architecture in Oran and Oranie is partly associated with the name of a female figure called Halima, or more precisely caïda Halima. Her fame is such that we speak of the house of caïda Halima, the mosque of caïda Halima, the farm of caïda Halima… In the difficult context of colonization, these constructions naturally raised questions. Our initial investigations revealed that they had more to do with the personality of this woman who became the daughter-in-law of a Bach-Aghas and Aghas family. As the only caïda in all of colonial Algeria, the title of caïd is essentially a male preserve. For the purposes of this article, we will focus our attention on the real estate she managed in colonial and indigenous society, which was fundamentally male-dominated. No research has been devoted to her in its entirety.
