Tóm tắt:How can we describe the relationship between the thing represented and the medium of painting, the impression of a detail that imposes itself, that seems to emerge from the wall? Using an architectural detail in a fresco by Piero della Francesca as a starting point, we will unfold the concept of density. As analysis of the intrinsic and formal qualities of the detail is not enough to describe the effect it has on the viewer, we postulate, in the course of a journey through Chardin’s still lifes, that density is also a phenomenological property, the characterisation of an aesthetic relationship, the composition of a pictorial space that welcomes emptiness and invents a singular time.
