| Samenvatting: | In this essay, we use Brazilian philosopher Paulo Arantes’s definition of the present as an “age of emergence” as a starting point for thinking about the primacy of riots, with all their ambiguities, in present-day social struggles. To do this, we draw mainly on Arantes and Joshua Clover. Finally, we attempt to sketch out an open concept of improvisation based on an intuition of the End Notes collective and another of Clover’s when they think of riots in order to turn them inside out in an attempt to imagine a possibility of unblocking the limits of riots. |
