| Sumari: | To differentiate themselves and gain a competitive edge, many companies opt to recruit a “continuous improvement manager.” This person, who generally holds little power, must guide all internal stakeholders toward excellence. This article aims to identify the competencies and strategies used to implement the continuous improvement approach. We draw on the theoretical frameworks of dynamic capabilities and actor-network theory to elucidate the discourse of continuous improvement professionals. The results can be broken down into ten micro-foundations of dynamic capabilities. We also highlight a new macro-foundation specific to the unique situation of the powerless leader: translation. |
