| Zusammenfassung: | Using a unique long-term (1998-2019) database of French entrepreneurs from 19 to 29 years old (N=3697), we compare the differences in business survival between nascent student entrepreneurs and nascent young entrepreneurs. Based on a conceptual and a Cox survival regression model, we find that determinants of survival of nascent student entrepreneurs’ businesses are not the same from those of young entrepreneurs. The specific human capital has a similar impact on business survival, but personal and project characteristics have not the same effect within the two groups. In particular, differences consist in the effects of gender, level of education and financing aspects. We found that the difference in survival is linked to the process of transformation that converts knowledge into experience. Our analysis argues that nascent entrepreneurs could benefit from a period of mentoring before launching a start-up on their own. |
