| Summary: | This special issue is focused on university social responsibility (USR). Broadly defined, USR refers to the way in which higher education institutions (HEIs) integrate the issues of ecological and social transition into their operations, as well as their teaching and research missions. In France, the Ministry of Higher Education and Research is now requiring HEIs to draw up an SD&SER (Sustainable Development & Social and Environmental Responsibility) strategy and to educate all undergraduate students in the challenges of the ecological transition to sustainable development, based on a common foundation of knowledge and skills. The institutions' achievements are assessed during the negotiation of the performance and resources’ contracts, and as part of the accreditation of programs and degrees. This context invites us to gain a better understanding of the USR management processes, as well as the results of these approaches with regard to the key stakeholders in higher education. This is the objective of this thematic issue, which brings together eight academic articles and an expert's point of view. |
