Summary:This paper explores the role of social skills in the transmission of family businesses (FBs), highlighting the intergenerational dynamics and key factors influencing the continuity of these businesses. The main objective is to understand how the social skills of successors improve the transmission of FBs in Cameroon. The methodology is based on a qualitative approach, using semi-structured interviews with 45 participants from 10 family businesses. These interviews provided valuable data on the family and organizational dynamics surrounding the transmission of FBOs. The results show that: social skills, through conflict management, social and professional networks, commitment to and alignment with family values, and the integration of external candidates, are the main source of facilitation of handover. This article recommends organizing appropriate training to develop the social skills of successors and putting in place governance mechanisms that encourage intergenerational communication. It also stresses the importance of strategically integrating external talent when necessary. These initiatives aim to strengthen the resilience and sustainability of EFs in the face of contemporary challenges. JEL Codes: J24, L26, M13, O3
