| Sumari: | Cameroon’s SMEs are an essential link in the economic fabric, and face a thorny transmission problem. The aim of this article is to analyze the performance-enhancing characteristics of family-run SMEs highlighting their specific features. Using a sequential mixed-methods approach, an exploratory qualitative survey of a sample of 5 SME cases and a quantitative survey of a sample of 68 transferred family SMEs were carried out. The analyses showed that performance depends on the combination of fundamental characteristics through traditions and operational characteristics. The results confirm the need for hybridization by combining African values and Western methods in order to propose a managerial transfer configuration authentic to the Cameroonian context.
