Shrnutí:The aim of this article is to highlight the contradictory dimension of the Marxist reception of Johann Gottlieb Fichte’s Addresses to the German Nation in the German-speaking world at the beginning of the 20 th century by comparing two very different interpretations: that of Franz Mehring and that of Max Adler. The former sees Fichte’s book as a problematic utopia, the realisation of which would be both dangerous and doomed to failure, while the latter sees in it the seeds of a socialist education plan and a revolutionary conception of the nation.
