Samenvatting:The present communication aims to study the characteristics of subordination in modern Mandarin, by analyzing the syntactic behavior and the positions of the subordinators. We will deal with the structure of the subordinate clause and the order of the main and subordinate clauses according to the different functions that the secondary predicate can assume in relation to the main predicate, that is to say the circumstantial function, the actancial function and the relative clause. When the secondary predicate assumes the circumstantial function, it is mandatory to have a subordinator, the order of the main and subordinate clauses is relatively flexible. When the secondary predicate assumes the actantial function, there is no subordinator and the order of the main and subordinate clauses is fixed, which allows us to distinguish the secondary and main predicates. We will also study the relative clause whose position can change when there is a demonstrative and a classifier in the main clause.
