סיכום:This paper defends that a non-essentialist conception of the connection between feminism and pacifism is thinkable based on a study of Jane Addams (1860-1935). The paper seeks to show that Addams’s pacifist arguments are based on the particularities of women’s experiences rather than on an appeal to biology and thereby affirms the fully pragmatist approach of this critique. These experiences lead women to adopt a broader point of view than men on war and its consequences, which would allow them to be tangentially more sensitive to its regressive nature for civilisation. The article then analyses different types of critiques that Addams addresses to traditional conceptions of political and economic power which she denounces as being “militaristic” before demonstrating how these critiques would be specifically feminist by relying in particular on the resources of feminist epistemologies and “care” theories.
