Resumo:The present work investigate written information storage of heterographic homophones. A theoretical perspective oppose two standpoints. One hypothesize that people are sensitive to statistical regularities embedded into linguistic utterances (the connexionism view). The other hypothesize that people compute symbolic information through the application of formal rules (the cognitivism view). An empirical perspective addressed a corpus analysis of child directed written materials ( Manulex). Heterographic-homophone statistical regularities are extracted, standing from infralexical level (phoneme-grapheme association frequencies and phoneme-grapheme association consistencies) to morphosyntactic level (past tense frequencies). The case of the heterographic-homophone words in /e/ is detailed. To approach the psychological validity of the two mentioned hypotheses, the final sections stress the need to precisely evaluate what children are exposed to during school years.
