Miêu tả
Tóm tắt:‪Can the Régiment du Service Militaire Adapté (‪‪rsma‪‪), a volunteer-based military program that aims to professionally train indigenous youth in the French overseas dependencies, and very popular in French Polynesia, be considered as a new sovereign articulation? In this article, I will analyze the involvement of the Polynesian youth in the ‪‪rsma‪‪ program as a sovereign articulation and affirmation of one’s own identity as well as a performance of citizenship. At the same time, the social and economic asymmetries that mark the fragile situation of the Polynesian society are taken into consideration. Thinking about this military program and its high enrollment rate as an articulation allows the researcher to take into account the choice of local social actors and their life trajectories, both pragmatic and symbolic, as well as the imaginaries that revolve around the army and enlisting in French Polynesia. ‪
