Description
Summary:The increase in the number and direction of international student flows in recent years has heralded the advent of a circulatory paradigm. This system seems to be showing its last glimmers, brilliant but indicative of radical change. Korea and Argentina are examples of two dynamic countries that are working to make themselves more attractive, with some success. However, the context around them is changing, redefining the geopolitical directions and practicalities of internationalisation. The former is turning to Africa, a new continent outside its traditional sphere, to compete on a global scale while at the same time asserting an a-colonial position. The latter is experimenting with virtual forms of internationalisation, by obligation in front of the pandemic but also to reinvent the failing mobility of its citizens. At the same time, the involvement of higher education and research in tackling global change and the ecological crisis is putting rapidly increasing pressure on the mobility that had become customary. Uncertainty is challenging the established race.
