Deskribapena
Gaia:The internationalization of higher education in Malaysia, embodied by a rapid growth in incoming student mobility, reflects a global dynamic redefining the global educational landscape. Malaysian public policies and adapted institutional strategies have shaped the country into a new hub of attraction for international students, marking its emergence as a regional educational powerhouse. This development is analyzed through an in-depth field survey and a mixed analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, enabling us to capture the dynamics and strategies underlying this evolution. The article also examines the socio-historical issues of ethnic separation and the racialization of higher education that have influenced the structure of the national education system, highlighting the challenges posed by stratification between the public and private university sectors. It also points out how the reconfiguration of the Malaysian higher education system has molded diversified and specific recruitment strategies fueled by religious, tourist and humanitarian logics.
