| Riassunto: | This article examines the challenges faced by Chinese students pursuing higher education in the U.S. amidst the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic and escalating tensions between China and the U.S. Drawing on the survey data from 229 students enrolled at American universities, the study explores how geopolitical conflicts and the COVID-19 pandemic have affected and reshaped perceptions of American education among Chinese students. The findings of research identify correlations between the effects of COVID-19 and U.S. policies regarding Chinese students, as well as concerns about U.S. public safety and the impact of U.S. foreign policy toward China on students’ education at American universities. Students’ responses reveal how the pursuit of an American college education remains deeply intertwined with broader societal dynamics and geopolitical realities, which challenge the aspirations of Chinese students for education abroad in an increasingly deglobalizing world. |
