| الملخص: | This article sets out to examine one of the most neglected conditions of dialogue: interest. Far from being a marginal moral disposition, interest is essential to the very fabric of human interaction. Without it, exchanges risk becoming mere formalities. The article explores three interconnected dimensions of interest. First, it argues that interest is neither curiosity nor sympathy, but a passionate engagement with the Other’s singular reality, drawing in particular on Kierkegaard’s conception of infinite interest and Descartes’s analysis of wonder. Second, it addresses the ethical and existential challenges of engaging with the radically other, drawing on Levinas, Derrida, and Adler to show that genuine interest requires hospitality, openness, and vulnerability, as well as the mediation of relational structures as exemplified in early caregiving experiences. Finally, it investigates the voluntary dimension of interest, demonstrating how narrative operates as a privileged medium that fosters ethical engagement and allows dialogue to unfold as a co-constructed, transformative encounter.
