| Zusammenfassung: | Water reuse (REUSE) is considered as one solution to promote the circular economy and efficient water resource management. The accelerating pace of climate change necessitates exploring alternatives to conventional resource supply. We illustrate how rapid legislative developments can play a significant role in transitioning towards circular water management. However, the success of this transition depends on many factors such as the effective implementation capacity of laws, infrastructure investments, stakeholder engagement, or public awareness of the benefits of circular water management. After outlining the challenges and current legal framework governing REUSE, we discuss intrinsic limitations of this practice, which call for advocacy towards a paradigm shift. We explore the foundations of what this new paradigm could entail and the necessary legal framework for its implementation. JEL Codes: K32, Q25, Q53, Q55 |
