| Zusammenfassung: | In rugby, the referee must ensure that all participants remain safe and play fair. With confrontation, which is inherent to this sport, diverging opinions arise; the referee’s mission is not to seek consensus, but to remind people of the rules – ones that allow participants to play as a collective. That is the order of their mission. The referee does not create action, as this role is reserved for the players. Yet, in order to ensure that the show is as entertaining as possible, the referee must also be able to read a given event and play their part in it. That is the spirit of their mission. In short, refereeing is an eminently human role. |
