| Resumo: | Populist discourse often emerges in times of crisis and reflects a malfunction in democratic mechanisms. In Morocco, this discourse gained visibility with the rise to power of the Islamist party over a decade, in direct response to the social movements that shook the Arab world in 2011. Through linguistic analysis, we have identified the main constituent elements of this discourse, including victimization, dramatization, demonization, and the savior strategy. The latter is characterized by the manipulation of emotions, distortion of the image of other political parties, and minimizing their efforts by personalizing conflicts. Thus, instead of a debate of ideas, this discourse favors an emotional conflict, reinforcing emotional ties between the party and its supporters, influencing their convictions, directing their consciousness, and shaping their opinion. |
