Beskrivelse
Summary:In conclusion, the master’s degree program of the Leonard Davis School of Gerontology has a professional orientation and is producing practitioners for a variety of roles in gerontological service. The program emphasizes both scientific content on gerontology and practical skills in program design and implementation. This has been well received by the service community. The graduates of the program have assumed positions of leadership both locally and nationally and have moved quickly into supervisory and instructional positions. Although only a few of them received any special preparation in the design and development of gerontology education, as many as fifty-seven percent indicate they are involved in in-service instruction and staff development. This underscores the uniqueness of their knowledge and the desire of many agencies to disseminate it to others. The School of Gerontology, then, has been able to implement its plan for a professional gerontology degree. Much yet remains to be done in sensitizing employers to the skills and knowledge which the graduates have, but employment has been secured by most of the graduates and a solid reputation is being achieved through their productivity in the service community.
