| סיכום: | While the healthy aging of the population is a growing issue in Western societies, the perception of physical activity for older adults is still largely shaped by a medical profession that advocates moderation. This study, through ten semi-structured interviews with CrossFit members aged 50 to 86 years, takes another view of old age: The focus switches from preserving one’s body to developing and maximizing one’s physical capacities. CrossFit therefore appears to be fertile ground for exploring the experience of the “statutory age gap” in physical activity and sports among older adults. This notion appears fundamental in the experience of the respondents, from their registration to their practice in situ. If, at first, it hinders access to the activity, it then enables older adults to enjoy a special status in the gym, placing them in an ambivalent position between admiration and domination. |
