Yhteenveto:This article analyses the factors influencing the adoption of socially responsible practices by French football clubs. Using semi-structured interviews, the study gathered the opinions of 17 managers from five professional clubs in League 1 and League 2. The data was processed using thematic content analysis. The results show that clubs see social responsibility as a response to the expectations of their various stakeholders, particularly at local level. They adopt strategies to obtain pragmatic, cognitive and moral legitimacy, mainly disseminated via their digital platforms. However, the study highlights a notable lack of monitoring and evaluation of the initiatives put in place. Furthermore, French football clubs take fewer initiatives than other European clubs (English and German). Lastly, the government should be more active in encouraging football clubs to face up to their responsibilities more effectively.
