| Achoimre: | The author describes the subjective logic of the person or group of people who have suffered a disaster which is prolonged by an exile with no return Cultural differences can stand in the way of communication between carers and the cared-for, and “cultural distance” is questioned, as the subject’s place in his or her social bond, culture and community is also broken or severely threatened in disaster situations. Beyond the need for the most effective possible understanding between carers and the cared-for, the author looks at the cultural reconstruction of the individual, which cannot be reduced to a return to a previous identity. The possible destinies of identity reconstruction are outlined, based on a clinical and anthropological examination of disaster theories. |
