| Samenvatting: | This article examines the concept of virility through a critical analysis of the relationship between humanism, masculinity, and patriarchy. We trace how virility, originally linked to the universal concept of Man in Kantian humanism, was radicalized and appropriated as a tool for power and domination, reinforcing the phallogocentric patriarchal system. The equation “man = virile = masculine = phallic” is analyzed in the context of Freudian and Lacanian psychoanalysis, highlighting tensions between individuality, desire, and responsibility. Clinical examples illustrate conflicts around consent, domination, and the responsibility of desire in contemporary relationships. The article questions the stakes of gender deconstruction, advocating for an ethical reconsideration of desire and the ego within modern societal frameworks. |
