Resumo:‪From 2015 to 2020, the Céreq exploited the ‘Défis’ survey project to shed light on the multiple challenges of continuing education in relation to the issues of securing professional career paths. While these contributions are now known and recognized, the conditions fort the emergence of Défis are much less understood. Yet, Défis marked a turning point in public statistics by originating from a primarily joint initiative, involving trade unions and employer organizations in its development, management and funding. After clarifying the concept of career paths and its normative implications, the learning, alliance, and convergence mechanisms that based on the joint project are explained. Finally, Défis originality is highlighted with regard to its positioning, technical attributes, and contributions to paritarism and collective debate.‪
