| Yhteenveto: | This article analyzes the standing US President Obama has in Europe by employing empirical data collected in 2009 and 2010. The research presents the evolution of the perception shared among Europeans of President Obama’s policies towards other countries. Data from the 2009 and 2010 Transatlantic Trends surveys are used to highlight how Europeans view Obama’s foreign policies, security priorities, leadership role in the world and understanding of the international context. While European political elites may have felt snubbed by Obama’s political focus on other areas of the world, public opinion in Europe has not reacted as negatively, showing a moderate decline in approval. Europeans seem to be still overall very supportive of a US global leadership under Obama, especially when the main focus is on common global problems, like the recent financial crisis and environmental challenges. |
