| সংক্ষিপ্ত: | According to common overviews of Dutch literary history, Expressionism arrived in the Netherlands only at the end of the First World War – after 1916, and found some resonance in particular in the first post-war years. As the following contribution indicates, Expressionism was in fact already present in the Netherlands in the early 1910s. Already before the World War, Expressionism is already observable – among others – in the work of the painter Jacoba van Heemskerck and the poet Albert Verwey.
