| Summary: | This article highlights the hybridization of styles evident in Puget de La Serre’s Le Breviere des courtisans (1630). The work in question combines the elocutio of sacred eloquence with the pleasures of the “soft style,” still appreciated in the first third of the 17th century, thus reconciling two conceptions of literary pleasure associated respectively with the sublime and the “delicate.” This phenomenon of hybridization, which brings the author’s prose closer to the “style Nervèze,” enabled him to achieve a certain success with readers during the period of Louis XIII, before his works fell out of favor. |
